Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how THEO collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when you use the THEO mobile application, website, and related services.
THEO is operated by Dmitrii Tsariabin, an independent individual developer (“THEO,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
For privacy questions or requests, contact hello@go-theo.com.
1. What THEO does
THEO is an AI-powered English speaking practice application. It lets you have live voice conversations with an AI conversation partner so you can practice speaking, listening, vocabulary, fluency, and everyday conversation. THEO may adapt conversations based on what you say, your apparent language level, and information you choose to share during conversations.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Voice audio and microphone input
When you start a conversation and grant microphone permission, THEO processes the audio you speak so the service can understand you and respond. Voice audio may be transmitted to cloud-based speech and AI systems for real-time processing.
THEO does not continuously listen to or record your microphone in the background, and raw conversation audio is not intended to be permanently stored by THEO by default. Service providers may process audio transiently as necessary to provide the live conversation and may retain limited information according to their own service terms and our configuration.
THEO does not use your voice to create a biometric voiceprint or to identify you by your voice.
2.2 Conversation text and learning information
THEO may generate or process transcripts, conversation text, detected language level, corrections, vocabulary, topics, conversation summaries, lesson or session status, speaking statistics, and other information derived from your conversations.
Information you voluntarily tell THEO during a conversation may also be processed. This can include a name or nickname, interests, preferences, work or study topics, travel interests, or other details you choose to discuss. Please do not intentionally share passwords, payment-card details, government identification numbers, medical records, or other highly sensitive information.
2.3 App and installation identifiers
THEO may use anonymous or pseudonymous identifiers associated with an app installation or user profile to maintain app state, remember learning progress, enforce usage limits, manage subscriptions, prevent abuse, secure the service, and provide personalized functionality.
2.4 Device and technical information
We and our service providers may collect device type, operating system and version, app version, language or locale, application identifiers, IP address, network information, timestamps, request metadata, performance information, notification token information, and app interactions.
2.5 Analytics and diagnostics
We may collect app launches, screen views, conversation starts and completions, session duration, feature usage, subscription events, notification delivery and open events, interaction events, crash logs, stack traces, app state, device information, operating-system information, and performance data. We use this information to understand product usage, diagnose problems, improve reliability, and measure whether features such as reminders and notifications are useful.
2.6 Subscription and purchase information
If you purchase a subscription or other paid feature, we may receive information such as the product purchased, entitlement status, renewal state, transaction identifiers, and purchase timestamps. Payments made through the Apple App Store are processed by Apple. THEO does not receive your full payment-card number from Apple.
3. Microphone permission
THEO requests microphone access because live voice conversation is the core feature of the app. Microphone input is processed only when required for a conversation or another voice feature that you actively use. You can disable microphone access in iOS Settings, but voice conversation will not function without it.
4. Notifications
If you allow notifications, THEO may send reminders or other app-related notifications, including prompts to return for speaking practice. Notification providers may process device tokens and delivery information. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
5. Location
THEO does not require precise GPS location for its core speaking-practice functionality. Our infrastructure and service providers may infer an approximate geographic area from information such as an IP address as part of ordinary internet, security, analytics, and service operations.
6. How we use information
We may use information to provide live conversations; understand spoken input; generate AI responses; adapt conversation difficulty and topics; maintain learning progress; produce corrections, summaries, or speaking statistics; operate subscriptions and entitlements; send notifications you have enabled; prevent fraud and abuse; secure the service; diagnose technical problems; monitor performance; analyze product usage; improve conversation quality and user experience; develop and test features; respond to support requests; comply with legal obligations; and protect THEO and its users.
7. Artificial intelligence and automated processing
THEO uses artificial-intelligence and speech-processing systems to understand your speech and generate conversational responses. Audio, transcripts, conversation context, and limited learner-profile information may be sent to these systems when necessary to provide the service.
AI-generated responses can be inaccurate, incomplete, unexpected, or inappropriate. THEO is intended for language practice and should not be treated as a source of professional, medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or emergency advice.
8. Service providers
THEO relies on third-party infrastructure and service providers to operate the application.
Google Firebase and Google Cloud
We may use Firebase Authentication or anonymous identifiers, Firestore, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase App Check, Cloud Functions or Cloud Run, Firebase Cloud Messaging, and related Google Cloud services. These services may process application identifiers, learner-profile information, conversation metadata, analytics events, notification tokens, diagnostics, and other information necessary to provide their functions.
Gemini and Google AI services
THEO may use Gemini Live, Gemini models, and related Google AI services to process live voice interactions, conversation context, speech, and AI-generated responses. Information is transmitted to these services only as reasonably necessary to provide the requested functionality and operate the service.
Subscription services
THEO may use Apple StoreKit and a subscription-management provider such as RevenueCat to manage purchases, subscriptions, and entitlements. These systems may process transaction identifiers, app-user identifiers, subscription status, and related purchase information.
Apple
Apple may process information in connection with app distribution, purchases and subscriptions, push notifications, device services, operating-system functionality, and App Store analytics. Apple’s processing is governed by its own privacy policies.
9. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers acting on our behalf, including cloud, AI, speech-processing, analytics, diagnostics, notification, security, and subscription providers; when necessary to provide a feature you request; to detect or prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents; when required by law or legal process; to establish or defend legal claims; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of THEO, our users, or others.
We do not use your voice recordings for third-party advertising, and we do not share raw voice audio with advertisers.
10. Data storage and retention
THEO uses cloud-based systems. Structured learner information, conversation-derived data, anonymous identifiers, subscription status, analytics, notification information, diagnostics, and other application data may be stored for as long as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve THEO or to meet legal obligations.
Raw conversation audio is not intended to be permanently stored by THEO by default. Conversation transcripts, summaries, corrections, profile information, and session metadata may be retained when necessary to provide continuity, personalization, learning history, analytics, security, or product functionality.
Data may be processed or stored in countries other than the country where you reside.
11. Data deletion and your choices
You may request deletion of information associated with your THEO usage by contacting hello@go-theo.com. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to identify the relevant app installation, account, purchase, or data set. Some information may be retained where required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or legitimate operational reasons.
You can control microphone and notification permissions through iOS Settings. You may also stop using the service at any time.
12. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, portability of, or objection to certain processing of personal information. You may also have the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To make a request, contact hello@go-theo.com.
13. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including secure network connections, access controls, app-integrity protections, and cloud security features. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security.
14. Children
THEO is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If a user is below the age at which they may independently consent to use an online service in their jurisdiction, they should use THEO only with the permission or involvement of a parent or legal guardian where required. If you believe a child has provided personal information that should be deleted, contact hello@go-theo.com.
15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as THEO changes. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and provide additional notice when required by law.
